What's included in the Tot Montserrat ticket

One voucher covers everything you need for a full day: getting there, the views, the basilica, the museum and lunch.

Barcelona metro (TMB)

Two metro journeys included — get from your hotel to Plaça Espanya and back without buying separate tickets.

FGC R5 train, round-trip

Direct train from Plaça Espanya towards Manresa. Roughly one hour each way; runs hourly with extra services in the morning.

Cremallera or Aeri — your choice

Take the cog railway from Monistrol (relaxed, with seats) or the cable car from Aeri (panoramic, 5 minutes). You'll decide when you pick up your tickets at the Tourist Information.

Funicular Sant Joan — unlimited

Ride up to 1,000 metres for the Sant Joan viewpoint and the start of the mountain's hiking trails.

Funicular Santa Cova — unlimited

Down to the Holy Cave where the Black Madonna was found. Occasionally closed for maintenance — check on the day.

Audiovisual exhibition

Entry to "Montserrat Portes Endins", the multimedia exhibition that explains the history of the mountain and the monastery.

Basilica + Throne of the Madonna

Direct entry to the basilica and to the Throne of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta) — no separate booking needed.

Museum of Montserrat

Entry to the museum with 1,300 works including Picasso, Caravaggio, Monet, El Greco, Dalí, Tàpies and Miró. One of Catalonia's most important collections.

Catalan lunch buffet

All-you-can-eat self-service buffet at the monastery restaurant with panoramic views — Catalan classics, salads, meat, fish and dessert.

Not included

  • Drinks at the buffet (priced à la carte)
  • Escolania boys' choir performance (free to attend, but separate ticket recommended for guaranteed seating)
  • Hotel pick-up or drop-off

Cremallera or Aeri — the one decision you make at pickup

Tot Montserrat covers one of the two mountain transports. Both bring you to the same place at the top, but the experience is very different. You make your choice when you exchange your voucher for printed tickets at the Tourist Information in Barcelona — so think about it before you arrive, and tell the staff which one you want.

Cremallera de Montserrat cog railway approaching the monastery

Cremallera (cog railway)

Ride time: about 15 minutes
Seated, wheelchair-accessible
Scenic views through large windows
Train stop: Monistrol de Montserrat

Best for: families, anyone uneasy with heights, travellers who want comfort over thrills

Yellow Aeri de Montserrat cable car against sandstone cliffs

Aeri (cable car)

Ride time: about 5 minutes
Standing only, open panoramic windows
Spectacular 360° view of the sandstone peaks
Train stop: Aeri de Montserrat (one stop before Monistrol)

Best for: travellers chasing the iconic views; not ideal if you're afraid of heights

Heads up: the last Aeri usually runs around 6:00 PM and can pause in strong wind. The Cremallera runs later and is more weather-resistant.

The two things Tot adds — the museum and the buffet

These are the reasons most travellers choose Tot over Trans Montserrat.

Museum of Montserrat

One of Catalonia's most important art collections, with 1,300 works across 13 rooms. The painting collection alone includes Caravaggio, El Greco, Monet, Sisley, Picasso, Dalí, Miró and Tàpies. There's also an archaeological wing with pieces from ancient Egypt and the Biblical East. Plan around an hour to do it justice — two if you want to take your time.

Catalan lunch buffet

A proper sit-down meal at the monastery's self-service buffet restaurant. Catalan classics, fresh salads, hot dishes (meat and fish), and dessert — all-you-can-eat. The dining hall has panoramic windows looking out over the valley. Drinks are extra, paid at the table. It's open at lunchtime; if you want a calm seat, arrive before the noon rush.

How it works — step by step

Book online

Pick your travel day and book online. Your voucher arrives by email straight away — one voucher covers the entire day.

Pick up your tickets in Barcelona

Show your voucher at the Tourist Information at Plaça de Catalunya 14 (in front of El Corte Inglés). Open daily 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Tell the staff whether you want the Cremallera (cog railway) or the Aeri (cable car) — your choice is final at this point. You'll receive printed tickets and your buffet voucher.

Take the FGC R5 from Plaça Espanya

Walk down to the FGC platform at Plaça Espanya and board the R5 towards Manresa. Get off at Monistrol de Montserrat (for the Cremallera) or one stop earlier at Aeri de Montserrat (for the cable car). Do not get off at Olesa de Montserrat — that's a different line.

Enjoy the full day

Visit the basilica and the Throne of the Madonna, explore the museum, watch the Portes Endins exhibition, use the funiculars freely, have lunch at the buffet, and return whenever you like with the same tickets.

Morning trains from Plaça Espanya (Mon–Fri)

Aim for the 8:36 AM service: it's the most relaxed, gives you a quiet monastery and a guaranteed seat. The 9:36 train is reliably crowded.

What travellers say about Tot Montserrat

4.6 · 567 reviews
★★★★★

The buffet was outstanding — salads, fish, meat, even a proper dessert station. The Cremallera ride was spectacular, and having the museum included meant we could take our time. A truly rewarding day trip from Barcelona.

Tobias — Germany, March 2026

★★★★★

Excellent value once you add everything up: the metro, the train, the cog railway, the museum and lunch. The staff at Plaça de Catalunya were very helpful explaining the platforms.

Maria — Spain, February 2026

★★★★★

We loved being able to visit the museum without worrying about another ticket. Picasso, Dalí, El Greco — all in one place. The buffet was a great way to relax in the middle of the day before heading up to the Sant Joan viewpoint.

James — UK, January 2026

A few things worth knowing

  • Pick up your voucher the day before if you can — the Tourist Information at Plaça de Catalunya is open until 8:30 PM and lets you skip the morning rush.
  • The Throne of the Black Madonna closes between 10:30 AM and 12:00 noon. Plan to visit before or after that window.
  • The buffet is busiest around noon. Either eat early (around 12:00) or late (after 1:30 PM) for a calmer seat with a view.
  • The Funicular Santa Cova occasionally closes for maintenance — if it matters to you, ask at the info desk on top before walking down.

Tot Montserrat — frequently asked questions

Both tickets cover the same transport: metro, FGC R5 train, your choice of Cremallera or Aeri cable car, both mountain funiculars, the audiovisual exhibition and the basilica with the Throne of the Madonna. Tot adds two things on top: the Museum of Montserrat and a Catalan lunch buffet at the monastery. Pick Tot for a full day with culture and a sit-down meal, Trans for a leaner half-day visit.

At the Tourist Information at Plaça de Catalunya 14, in front of El Corte Inglés. It's open daily from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Show your digital voucher, and you'll receive printed tickets for every leg of the journey plus your buffet voucher.

The Cremallera (cog railway) is a 15-minute, seated ride with large windows — comfortable and family-friendly. The Aeri (cable car) is a 5-minute panoramic ride with standing room only — spectacular but not ideal if you're afraid of heights. The Cremallera also runs later in the evening and is less weather-sensitive. You'll choose when you exchange your voucher for printed tickets at the Tourist Information in Barcelona — and at that point your choice is final, so know what you want before you arrive.

The Museum of Montserrat has around 1,300 works across 13 rooms. The highlights are the painting collection (Caravaggio, El Greco, Monet, Sisley, Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Tàpies) and an archaeological wing with pieces from ancient Egypt and the Biblical East. Most visitors spend about an hour inside.

It's an all-you-can-eat self-service buffet at the monastery's restaurant with panoramic views over the valley. Catalan classics, salads, hot dishes (meat and fish) and dessert. Drinks are extra, paid at the table. Show your buffet voucher at the entrance. It's busiest around noon, so either eat early or after 1:30 PM for a quieter seat.

Plan for a full day. Travel time from central Barcelona to the monastery is about 1.5 hours each way, including the metro, the train and the cog railway or cable car. Most Tot visitors spend 5 to 7 hours on the mountain itself, which is enough for the basilica, the Throne, the audiovisual exhibition, the museum, the Sant Joan viewpoint, a funicular ride and a relaxed lunch at the buffet.

Yes. Cancellations up to 24 hours before your booked time are fully refunded. You can also rebook for a different date if your plans change.

Yes. Tot Montserrat is a round-trip product — the same voucher and tickets cover both the journey up and the journey back. You can return any time during opening hours.
